Temperatures In Classrooms

 By: Elissa Oxenreider

We have all had a cold class, at least once in our lives. They always keep it cold so people don’t fall asleep, but in the end all of the students are just plain cold. It is said that classrooms that stay at 80 or 64 degrees F had a negative impact on the student's memory. A study showed that test scores were significantly higher when the room temperature was at 72 degrees.

According to Psych Central, high levels of humidity, which is also hot weather, lowered scores on concentration while increasing sleepiness. A heat wave with high humidity can sometimes cause us to feel like we are lacking the energy we need, which then makes the learning process even more complicated and difficult.Students and teachers both gets these symptoms.Lower test scores, decrease in memory ability, lack of energy and losing focus are just a few of the thing that too hot or too cold temperature conditions in the classroom. Since classroom temperatures do affect a student’s learning process, what’s the best solution to this problem?

Solar Eclipse 2017

By: Isabelle Patterson

The state of Georgia experienced the total solar eclipse on August 21,2017.  People used many different of methods to safely view the eclipse.  In science class we made a box to view the eclipse.  I used my box.  My box worked out great.   The image was very small, but very clear.  The moon was blocking the sun until it became dusky dark.  The crickets started to sing and chirp.  The birds stopped tweeting and went away.  The street lights were on.  It only lasted a few minutes, but it was pretty cool.

Cross Country Comes to HCMS!

Guess what?  Haralson County Middle School is hosting its first ever cross country team!  Cross country and track are usually believed to be the same thing, but these two sports are very different.  In track, at our age, you can run any distance from 50 meters to two miles.  In every event, you run on the same track.  On the other hand, cross country is all long distance.  You may be dreading the distance at first, but all of this sport’s beautiful scenery makes up for the length of the race.  You can run around lakes, through the woods, and sometimes even on roads!  Running uphill can sound awful, but you’ll never feel so happy to run down a hill afterwards.  Being a runner myself, I feel that cross country is challenging, but extremely fun.  I will be honest, the first two weeks of running can be difficult because your body is getting into shape.  After that, it becomes a thrilling experience to participate in, and to watch.  Cross country is also one of the most beneficial exercises.  It can help prevent lots of medical conditions.  This sport also strengthens your cardiovascular fitness, which is extremely important.  Cross country is also one of the most friendly sports.  Families, parents and teams usually cheer others on.  As far as winning goes, in this sport, you can win medals and ribbons for yourself (not the entire team).  In conclusion, cross country is an overall great sport that our school is very lucky to have.  I’m trying out for the team.  Are you?
